What is MuSciQ?

MuSciQ is a curriculum, created by Dr. Alan Tyson, that uses music as a driving force to help students learn.

What programs are offered?

Music and STEM. Music and STEM are two areas that are often seen as completely separate. But what if I told you they could complement one another? Well, they do! Music and STEM both utilize abstract thinking and symbolic notation while relying on basic understanding of numbers, proportions, intervals, measurements and operations. MuSciQ is in an integrated approach. With MuSciQ, students learn STEM concepts while learning songs and fundamentals of music. MuSciQ combines the world of music and STEM to provide meaningful, memorable, and positive results-based outcomes for students. By infusing music into STEM instruction, students will be able to use music to make meaningful connections to STEM subjects, leading to a deeper understanding and appreciation of both fields.

Music & ELA. Music and language arts go hand-in-hand. They both convey themes and messages. They also have the power to evoke strong emotions and create aesthetic experiences. One goal of MuSciQ is to help develop students’ ability to analyze and articulate their thoughts about themes, lyrics, melodies, chords, and textures, fostering a deeper appreciation for both art forms. With MuSciQ, music is used to encourage creative expression and support critical thinking, both of which are essential skills for success in ELA.

MuSciQ Tech. MuSciQ Tech lessons will help your child embark on an extraordinary journey into the captivating world of music creation through music production. Designed to inspire and educate, each lesson is a golden opportunity for your child to explore his or her passion for music while honing essential skills needed to transform musical visions into reality.  From beat-making to digital composition, each lesson works to equip your child with the tools and knowledge to unleash musical creativity. Your child will learn to compose mesmerizing melodies, craft mind-blowing beats, and experiment with a wide array of digital instruments, opening doors to endless sonic possibilities.

What Makes MuSciQ Unique?

In addition to the music component, MuSciQ utilizes Social-emotional (SEL) and tangential learning strategies. SEL has emerged as a prominent theme in education. Social and emotional competence can increase SEL skills AND academic achievement. One of many key components of MuSciQ is autonomy- the opportunity for students to learn concepts while making their own creative decisions within the learning process. This along with other strategies may seem small, but they are not! Allowing students to be a part of the decision making process helps contextualize learning. As a result, not only do students learn, but they are also motivated to WANT to learn!
